How to buy concert tickets in Japan from overseas

The short version: find the overseas round, apply early, and bring your passport. Here is how each step works.

Draft guide — steps and site notes are being verified on each ticket site before launch.

  1. 1

Find the round that takes overseas buyers

Big tours sell in rounds: fan club → presales → general sale. Look for an overseas or international round (often in English) — it usually accepts overseas cards and does not need a Japanese phone number.

  2. 2

    Understand lotteries (抽選)

Most popular shows are a lottery, not first come. You apply within a window, then results arrive by email on a set date. Payment usually happens only if you win.

  3. 3

    Phone (SMS) and card checks

Japanese sites often verify a Japanese mobile number by SMS and may reject overseas cards. If a round needs either, skip it and wait for the overseas round or an English-friendly site.

  4. 4

    Receive the ticket

Most tickets are now app-based e-tickets that unlock days before the show. Some still need collection at a convenience store terminal — check before you fly.

  5. 5

Bring ID that matches the name

Name-registered tickets are checked at the gate. Bring your passport; the name on the booking must match.

  6. 6

Missed out? Use the official resale

Many shows run a face-value official resale. Resale above face value is restricted in Japan and unofficial tickets can be refused at the gate.
